[Up] S'more

[Up] Graham cracker

The graham cracker was developed in 1829 in Bound Brook, New Jersey, by Presbyterian minister Rev. Sylvester Graham. Though called a cracker, it is sweet rather than salty and so bears some resemblance to a cookie (American English) / biscuit (British English) (although the term is unheard of in the United Kingdom/Republic of Ireland - a digestive biscuit is the closest approximation). The true graham cracker is made with graham flour, which is unsifted and coarsely ground wheat flour.

It was originally conceived of as a health food as part of the Graham Diet, a regimen to suppress what he considered unhealthy carnal urges, the source of many maladies according to Graham. Reverend Graham would often lecture about the adverse effects of masturbation or "self-abuse" as he called it. One of his many theories was that one could curb their sexual appetite by eating bland foods. Another man who held this belief was Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, the inventor of the corn flakes cereal. <ref name=tag> The Destroying Angel: Sex, Fitness and Food in the Legacy of Degeneracy Theory, Graham Crackers, Kellogg's Corn Flakes and American Health History by John Mooney, Prometheus Books, Buffalo, 1985. Graham crackers are used for making smores and crumbled graham crackers are often used for pie crusts.

[Up] S'mores Grahams

S'mores Grahams (a.k.a. S'mores Crunch) was a short-lived cereal produced by General Mills. This cereal was similar to Golden Grahams with a blend of chocolate mixed in. It consisted of chocolate graham cracker cereal pieces and tiny marshmallows pieces similar to those found in packets of powdered hot chocolate mix. The cereal's mascot was the S'morecerer (an animated sorcerer). It was launched in 1982 and discontinued later in the 1980s. General Mills later resumed S'mores Grahams production throughout the late 1990s, but it has since been re-discontinued.

The prize in every box of S'mores Grahams for many years was a small pack of Starburst candies.

Kellogg's introduced a similar cereal in 2002. This version (named Smorz) featured larger marshmallows and "puffs" as the cereal-base, as opposed to the Golden Grahams style pieces of S'mores Grahams.

[Up] Hershey's S'mores

Hershey's S'mores is a candy bar made by The Hershey Company. As the name indicates, the bar is based on s'mores, a popular campfire treat. The bar consists of a layer of graham cracker bits topped with marshmallow and coated with milk chocolate.

[Up] Moon pie

A moon pie or MoonPieMoonPie products is a pastry which consists of two round graham cracker cookies, with marshmallow filling in the center, dipped in chocolate or other flavors. The traditional pie is about the size of a hockey puck; a smaller version exists (mini MoonPie) that is about half the size. The four main flavors are chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and banana. Three newer flavors, lemon, orange and peanut butter are also available.
