The Roman Catholic Diocese of São Gabriel da Cachoeira {Latin: Cachoëiren(sis)} is a diocese located in the city of São Gabriel da Cachoeira in the Ecclesiastical province of Manaus in Brazil.
São Gabriel da Cachoeira is a Brazilian city, located on the shores of the Rio Negro River, in the region of Cabeça do Cachorro, Amazonas state. Most of its inhabitants are indigenous people. The Archbishop replaced Claudio Cardinal Hummes since his appointment as Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy on 31 October 2006. Interestingly, Archbishop Scherer's appointment ends almost four decades of Franciscan leadership in the Archdiocese with both Cardinal Arns and Cardinal Hummes both belonging to that Order.
