It also subsidizes parts of the funding for many private schools. In the tertiary education sector, the government also funds more than 15 state universities through the University Grants Commission.

The Bangladesh education board has taken steps to leave such practices in the past and is looking forward to education as a way to provide a somewhat poverty-stricken nation with a brighter future. Bangladesh has one of the lowest literacy rates in South Asia. One study found 15.5% primary school teacher absence rate.

Bogra () is a town, and one of the oldest towns in Northern Bangladesh. It is a centre of commerce and trade within the Bogra District and located under the Rajshahi Division. Bogra is sometimes described as the nerve centre of Northern Bangladesh. Amongst many notable activities, it has been hosting cricket test matches in Shaheed Chandu Stadium.
Bogra town also has an importance in terms of transport in northern Bangladesh, as it's situated at the centre. Very close to the town there is a place called Mahasthangarh which was the earliest capital city of Bangladesh, formerly known as Pundravardhana. This place is considered to be sacred by Buddhists, Muslims and Hindus alike. "Behular Bashor Ghar" which very near to Mahasthangarh is a popular place for the tourists. Tourists from all over Bangladesh visit this place throughout the year. Bogra has gone through massive development projects over the past few years. Its development progress is much greater comparing to rest of Bangladesh.
In addition to Mahasthangarh, landmarks in Bogra include the Bogra Nawab Bari museum and amusement park and the Akboria restaurant.

Yusuf Ali Chowdhury (1905-1971), or Mohan Mia as he is commonly referred to, was a prominent Bengali Muslim politician in the Indian Subcontinent. He played an active role in the Pakistan movement as a leading figure of the Muslim League in Bengal. He was a member of the Bengal Legislative Assembly in the 1930s and 1940s and also became a minister in the provincial government of East Bengal led by Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Huq in 1950s. Later on he went onto to become a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) of Pakistan. As candidates suggested by him had won almost all the seats in the sweeping election of 1954 which propelled Bengali nationalists into the central government, Pakistan's press proclaimed Mohan Mia "The King Maker of East Pakistan" .
He became a champion of Bengali rights during the early days of Pakistan. In 1954, under the orders of Governor Iskander Mirza, the Pakistani government arrested the two most outspoken leaders of East Bengal at the time- Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Yusuf Ali Chowdhury. The arrests led to an outcry across the province and triggered mass protests. In the following days thousands were arrested including university professors, provincial assembly members, and students. The government's tough stand aggravated the already bitter resentment of Bengalis following the Language Movement of 1952.
Mohan Mia however he became highly controversial during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 because of his staunch opposition to the break up of Pakistan. Although he spent most of his political career battling against the West Pakistani elite, Mohan Mia, in sharp contrast to most of his family, stopped short of calling for an independent state for Bengalis. He passed away at the fag end of the liberation war.

Mymensingh Medical College is a government medical college in Bangladesh. It is located in the Mymensingh District of the Dhaka Division. Mymensingh Medical Journal is the official journal of Mymensingh Medical College which is an Index Medicus/MEDLINE enlisted journal. Lytton Medical School
During the later part of the British India, it was felt that the people of the north-eastern region needed the services of qualified medical personnel. The then Campbell Medical School of Calcutta and Mitford Medical School of Dhaka were unable to cater for the needs of the growing population. With this background the third medical school for the region, was established in 1924 in Mymensingh, after the world war-1, by the EARL OF LYTTON, the then Governor of Bengal. This school was named as Lytton Medical School to run four year course of Licentiate of Medical Faculty (LMF). This course of LMF continued till 1962, when it was upgraded to a five-year undergraduate medical course under Dhaka University and the school was renamed as Mymensingh Medical College.
Situated 120 km away from the north of the capital city Dhaka, Mymensingh has a rich historical heritage. Having been once the administrative head quarter of the largest district in the whole of Indo-Pak subcontinent during the British rule, this district town has gradually developed itself from a sleepy quiet little town (declared a Municipality in 1869) of Rajas and Maharajas, Zaminders (landlords) and tenants and other professional into a big town, having all kinds of educational and institutions.
Standing on the southern and eastern bank of old Brahmaputra river the town offers a very convenient communication network of railway and roads with the rest of the country. Two hours drive away from Dhaka makes it one of the nearest and most accessible of all the district towns.
Mymensingh takes pride in the Jainul Abedin Art Gallery which has on its walls some of the finest works in water color by renowned painter, Jainul Abedin.
Among its other attractions is the Madhupur National park which is 35 km away to the north-east. It is a very popular picnic spot during the winter.

Chowdhury Moyezuddin Biwshash, also known as Khan Saheb Moizuddin Chowdhury, was the Zamindar of the Faridpur Biwshash Estate (commonly known as the Chanpur Estate) and was considered to be one of the most powerful Muslim landlords in Bengal during British rule. He hailed from one of Bengal's most prominent Muslim Zamindar families based in Biwshash Bari in the town of Chanpur just outside Faridpur. Moyezuddin was a disciple of the great Sufi saint Shah Sufi Khaja Yunus Ali Enayetpuri, The Pir Saheb of Enayetpur.
Moyezuddin's family estate stretched across the greater Faridpur region for 4000 square kilometers with a population of 142,000 people. The estate also owned lands in other districts of East Bengal- Manikganj, Mymensingh and Rangpur and in West Bengal, Punjab and Ottoman Arabia.
In 1886 Moyezuddin built the Moyez Manzil Palace in Faridpur, adjacent to the Circuit House. It replaced Biwshash Bari as the seat of the Chanpur Estate. He developed modern sewerage and electricity systems for the town in the early 1900s. He also built many schools, madrasas and orphanages.
Chowdhury Moyezuddin Biwshash played a huge role in building up protest against colonial rule as one of the patrons of the Indian National Congress party and also as a valiant fighter. He also brought about many social reforms in Faridpur, including initiating the revival of Islamic practices, abolition of various racist policies against the Muslims and helped bring about equality among Hindus and Muslims in the town and nearby areas.
Chowdhury Moyezuddin's descendants have gone onto engage actively in the political arena of Bengal. They include Chowdhury Abdallah Zaheeruddin (Health and Labor Minister of Pakistan in the 1960s), Yusuf Ali Chowdhury (eminent Muslim League politician), Enayet Hossain Chowdhury (Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan), Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf (former food minister of Bangladesh), Chowdhury Akmal Yusuf (former member of parliament in Bangladesh), Kamran Hossain Chowdhury (former member of parliament in Bangladesh) and Imran Hossain Chowdhury (former Chairman of Faridpur Upazila).
There are several educational institutions named after Chowdhury Moyezuddin Biwshash in Faridpur. They include most notably Moyezuddin Biwshash Secondary School, Moyezuddin Orphans' Home and Chowdhury Moyezuddin Biwshash High School and College. The main road of Faridpur's historic Kamlapur district, which contain the district court, Circuit House, residences of government officials, civil servants and former zamindar families, is named after him as Chowdhury Moyezuddin Biwshash Road.

The Moyez Manzil Palace located in Faridpur, Bangladesh was the seat of the Biwshash zamindar family in Faridpur. The palace is the biggest among the four built by the family.
The Moyez Manzil Palace was one of the first great landlord palaces built in eastern Bengal during British rule. Construction finished in 1885. The palace was built at a cost of 11 lac rupees, an amount donated by each Zamindar of the family from their annual incomes. It was again renovated in 1916.
Chowdhury Moyezuddin Biwshash, the legendary Zamindar of Faridpur and also head of the family moved into the palace in 1886 making it the official seat of the vast estate which covered most of Faridpur.
This was home to Moyezuddin's sons: eminent anti-British revolutionists Chowdhury Abdallah Zaheeruddin (Lal Mia), Yusuf Ali Chowdhury Mohon Mia and Enayet Hossain Chowdhury Tara Mia who became leading politicians in the Pakistan era. It also hosted political, socio-economic and cultural conventions. Moyez Manzil was the only palace outside Dhaka in the whole of East Bengal to be visited regularly by the great political leaders of the subcontinent. They included Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sher-e-Bangla A. K. Fazlul Huq, Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy and Sir Muhammad Zafrulla Khan.
Moyez Manzil is situated right at the heart of the old colonial town and is just adjacent to the Circuit House. It stands still quite impressively, on 27 bighas of land with gardens, orchards and lawns and is painted in a dazzling white. Some members of the family reside inside the compund.
The family also built several other palaces across Faridpur. They include Biwshash Bari Palace, Chowdhury Bari Palace and Biwshash Bari II.

:This article is about the city. For the district, see Cox's Bazar District.
Cox's Bazar ( Kôksho Bajar or Kôks Bazar) is a town, a fishing port and district headquarter in Bangladesh. It is known for its wide sandy beach which is claimed to be the world's longest natural sandy sea beach. It is an unbroken 125 km sandy sea beach with a gentle slope. Since the rise and fall of the tide here is not great, it is a good place for sea bathingHossain, Mofazzal. 2003. Cox's Bazar. In the Banglapedia (A National Encyclopedia of Bangladesh). The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh, Dhaka. P. 144 . It is located 150 km south of Chittagong. Cox’s Bazar is also known by the name "Panowa", the literal translation of which means "yellow flower". Its other old name was "Palongkee". The modern Cox's Bazar derives its name from Captain Cox (died 1799), a naval officer serving in British India. In the 18th century, an officer of British East India Company, Captain Hiram Cox was appointed as the Superintendent of Palongkee outpost after Warren Hastings became the Governor of Bengal. Captain Cox was specially mobilized to deal with a century long conflict between Arakan refugees and local Rakhains. The Captain was a compassionate soul and the plight of the people touched his heart. He embarked upon the mammoth task of rehabilitating refugees in the area, and made significant progress. A premature death took Captain Cox in 1799 before he could finish his work. But the work he had done earned him a place in the hearts of the locals and to commemorate his role in rehabilitation work a market was established and named after him as Cox's Bazaar ("Cox's Market").
Although Cox's Bazar is one of the most visited tourist destination in Bangladesh, it has yet to become a major international tourist destination due to lack of publicity.

Parbati Sankar Roy Choudhury, zamindar of Teota (now in Manikganj District, Bangladesh), was a well-known philanthropic landholder and an eminent personality of his times. He was born in the early 1850s, and was the elder son of Joy Sankar Choudhuri of Teota, and a younger cousin of Raja Shyama Sankar Chowdhury.
Parbati Sankar was an active member of the British Indian Association, the Indian Association, the Indian National Congress, and the Dacca district board. He was also one of the founders of the Indian Industrial Association, which was set up to promote the material and economic development of the region. As part of the economic reconstruction programme, Parbati Sankar made some attempts at exploiting the material raw resources available within the Teota zamindari (in Goalondo, Faridpur and elsewhere). His name is also associated with the formulation of a concrete and detailed plan (1890s) of extension of the railways to Manikganj, and thus linking it up with the town of Dacca on the east and the river port of Goalando on the west.
Parbatisankar is best remembered, however, for pioneering the 'dharmagola' system of co-operative grain banking, the fundamental idea behind it being to avoid famine and scarcity. 'Dharmagolas' or grain banks were established at various places within the Teota Estate (like Joyganj and elsewhere in Dinajpur, Goalundo in Faridpur, Nathpur and Shaitghar in Dacca, etc), and the system worked really well. These grain banks were subsequently officially registered as formal co-operative societies in the second decade of the 20th century. Parbati Sankar wrote a number of articles in which he not only outlined the basic features of the 'dharmagola' system, but also clearly brought out its many virtues and advantages. He spoke on the "Indebtedness of the Bengal peasantry" at an annual session of the Congress (INC) in the early 1900s.
