[Up] Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen

The Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen (KNM) was formed on 20 April 1950 in Kerala, south India, under the leadership of the scholars of the Islahi Movement in Kerala. Members of the organization call themselves Salafis. KNM is not the first organizational setup of the Islahi Movement in Kerala; that was Kerala Muslim Aikhya Sangham (Organization for Muslim Unity in Kerala). Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulema (KJU), a body also composed of scholars, was established in 1924, and is still actively functioning. KNM was formed as a common platform for the tens of hundreds of common Islahi (those who follow the ideology of Islahi Movement in Kerala ). K. M. Maulavi was the first president of KNM. The organization underwent a split in 2003, with a splinter being formed under Hussain Madavoor, forming two independent organizations.

[Up] Kerala Jamaiiyyathul Ulama

The Islahi movement in Kerala, which had initially been restricted to a small group of individual scholars, started functioning as an organization with the birth of Kerala Muslim Aikya Sangham at Kodungalloor in 1922. Its leaders, including Manappadan Kunhi Mohamed, Kottappurathu Seethi Mohammad, K.M. Seethi Sahib, K.M.Moulavi and E.K. Moulavi, decided to form an organization of the Muslim scholars (ulama) with the goal of restoring to orthodox practice Muslims who had been influenced by polytheism, Hinduism, or other religious movements. In 1924 scholars from all over Kerala gathered in Aluva at its second Annual Conference of Aikya Sangham.

At first the Kerala Jamaiiyyathul Ulama represented and comprised all ulama in Kerala. But after sometime, a faction of Ulama in Kerala from Jamaiiyyathul Ulama, who after having understood the idea of Jamaiiyyathul Ulama was to propagate tawhid (Islamic monotheism) and eradicate the existing beliefs of Muslim under the guidance of Qur'an and hadith, separated from it and formed another organization called Samastha Kerala Jamaiiyyathul Ulama. Several years later another group of scholars who valued working for Hukumath Ilahi over spreading tawhid among Muslims also left Jamaiiyyathul Ulama.

Despite the above setbacks, Kerala Jamaiiyyathul Ulama did expand their services in establishing Arabic Colleges. They established Madeenathul Uloom Arabic College in Pulikkal and Anwarul Uloom Women's Arabic college in Mongam. These two colleges are functioning under the guidance of Jamaiiyyathul Ulama. In the face of the leadership of Jamaiiyyathul Ulama, Kerala Aikya Sangham after having had its 12 years of progressive movements, retreated from the scene and entrusted all its aims and purposes and objectives to Jamaiiyyathul Ulama.

[Up] Ithihadu Shubbanul Mujahideen

Every thing that glitters is not gold" is not known to most youth. Vagabonding behind new things is inborn in youths. The youth psychology is not an exception to this. Youths are the strength of every organization and directing this strength to the right rout is a difficult job. The Mujahid movement made adequate care to monitor this power towards the propagation of Da'wa. Mujahid youths were engaged in all annual meeting of the erstwhile "Aikaya Sangam" and in the live Kerala Naduvathul Mujahideen as volunteers.

In 1966, K.N.M. formed its youth wing named as Ithihadu Shubbanil Mujahideen (ISM), with a view to equip them to take up the responsibilities of the old when they retire from their active works. I.S.M within a short span could succeed in sprouting up the message of Thouheed in the minds of young generation. Syed Mohammed Shakir is the president of ISM whereas C.P.Saleem holds the position of General Secretary.
